HALO: ANIME
Did you hear about the 1st Halo Anime?
Wouldja’ like to watch the original anime animated episode we made here at Humoring the Fates with the supa’ wicked awesome cast from Rooster Teeth?
This was the very first installment of Microsoft’s Game Studio’s animated Halo brand. So much evolved from this 1st transmedia build of one of the most successful video game franchises to date.
We were glad to be a part of this from the very beginning.
POSTHUMAN
PostHuman is set in an adrenalized future of espionage, assassins, and out of control super-science.
PostHuman follows a genius hacker and his dog as they help an enigmatic young woman free the remaining test subject of a black ops ESP test lab.
Fully animated in-house here at Fates.
STRANGER THINGS : ANIME
Made for AGBO’s Octopie Animation Channel, so the Russo Brothers… not the Duffer Brothers were our clients. One of many development projects Fates worked on from script to screen. This one went pretty viral (Newsweek even wrote about it) and inspired our later work on the transmedia rewatch campaign for Season IV.
Our other clients Flying Bark have evolved the concept and taken a series into production with an expected 2026 release.
YouTube’s 1st Animated Series!
Well on this one… we had a damn good time. This is just a fun show from every angle. To work on and watch. We’re super proud to have been a part of YouTube’s first ever animated show.
We got to do the big-budget, high-octane sections of this series when the animation switches from a puppet style and into full-bore, ass-kicking mode.
GEARBOX : BATTLEBORN
Kotaku just broke the first look at Gearbox’s new Battleborn cinematic we were fortunate to work on with a ton of talented animators.
We’ll have a bunch of updates on this project as more is released to the public… including some really neat deleted scenes that won’t be found in the game!!! Stay tuned.
NIKE : METEOR
We had fun with the creative department at AKQA on this spot which is pretty straightforwardly put as: “A woman’s kickboxing practice jumps into cosmic mode as she rescues the planet from impending doom.”
or in ad speak:
“The Nike Women campaign Be Transformed is specifically targeting young women in the Asia-Pacific region. It encourages personal transformation with confidence and strength through sports, activities and training programs.
Basically, we just had a blast making this 2D cel animation commercial from script to screen. It’s made in a sort of modern, hyper anime style and all the effects are hand drawn.
NIKE : PUNCHING BAG
Ricky Engelberg, Nike’s digital director for Asia Pacific, sums up the theme of these spots real nice: “The ‘be transformed’ initiative celebrates the revolution across all aspects of women’s lives. Nike aims to inspire them to take control of their own personal development and understand the value in training.”
The entire “Be Transformed” campaign was developed at AKQA, San Francisco, by creative director Neil Robinson, associate creative director Steve Clements, art directors Chantal Mora, Ian Aldous, Jimmy Soat, senior copywriter Bob Hall, copywriters Ellen Karas, Stephanie Kodeck, executive producers Mazen Haddad and Nancy Cardillo.
Filming was shot by director Rohitash Rao via Curious Pictures, New York, with live action director of photography Jeff Venditti, and editor Bob Mori.
JOE is JAPANESE: KOGA’S EMAIL
Immediately after the tsunami that struck Japan in 2011 we were scrambling to make sure our associates, friends, and family were safe. One anime producer Koga wasn’t heard from for a while and our concerns were boiling over until we received this email. The Fates Crew illustrated the email verbatim and that started the craze for Joe is Japanese comics. These stories have racked up millions of downloads and have been published in NY Times, Wired Magazine, Creative, AICN, and even won Advertising Age Ad of the week and month. There are even follow up comics that have been printed exclusively as the first ever manga in New York Magazine's 100 year history and several major Japanese publications.
RETURNERS : KURO KUMO
Translates to "Dark Cloud". Another of our critically acclaimed festival films that we've made over the years. Directed by Jesse Norton.
